About

About Us

The Journalist is an independent, English-language weekly newspaper published in Thimphu, Bhutan. Established in December 2009, we were the sixth newspaper — and fifth private newspaper — to launch in the Kingdom, joining a small but growing wave of independent media that emerged in the years following Bhutan’s transition to democracy.

Published every Sunday and circulated in both print and digital PDF editions, The Journalist has remained committed to independent, apolitical reporting for over a decade.

Our Mission
To be an intelligent newspaper that enhances knowledge and democracy in Bhutan.

We report on the issues that matter to Bhutanese society — from governance and public policy to community affairs and current events — with a focus on accuracy, fairness, and depth. As a privately owned publication, we operate independently of government control, upholding the principles of a free press that are enshrined in Bhutan’s 2008 Constitution.

Based in Thimphu, our team of journalists and editors works to keep readers across Bhutan informed, one Sunday at a time.
