June 8, 2023: Corresponding to the Twentieth Day of the Fourth Lunar Month of the Water Female Rabbit Year, the 31st Session of the National Council commenced today with Zhugdrel Phuensum Tshogpai Tendrel and offering of Marchang.
The Chairperson of National Council Sangay Dorji welcomed the guests, Deputy Chairperson, the Members, media representatives and extended greetings to the viewers on television and social media.
In his opening address, he expressed his immense gratitude to His Majesty The King for gracing the opening ceremony of Parliament this morning.
The Chairperson said that Their Majesties visit to the United Kingdom to attend the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla will further strengthen and renew the bilateral relations between Bhutan and United Kingdom established by the First Druk Gyalpo.
On behalf of the people of Bhutan, he offered his deepest gratitude to His Majesty The King for also taking time to visit and meet Heads of various countries. The Chairperson further stated that Bhutanese living abroad were expressing their immense gratitude to His Majesty The King for granting them audiences.
The Chairperson also thanked the former Chairpersons, Deputy Chairpersons and Members. On behalf of the Members of the current Members, he said the focus will be on providing timely services through adoption of advanced technologies.
After highlighting the agenda of the 31st session, he also offered his sincere prayers and wishes to His Holiness the Je Khenpo, Lams and Monastic body for conducting Moenlam Chenmos for the wellbeing of the country and for all sentient beings. He also offered prayers for the longevity of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and Royal Family members.
Finally, the Chairperson offered his good wishes and prayers for a successful deliberation of the 31st session of the National Council with the blessings of the Guardian Deities.
The Prime Minister, Speaker, Opposition Leader, Ministers, Heads of Constitutional Offices and Desuung Skilling Programme, Cabinet Secretary and Secretary General of National Assembly also attended the event.
